Geocache Description:

Help!

This little ducky has managed to get itself twapped.  Can you help?

This really is quack central.  Dozens and dozens of our feathered friends regularly meet up here to have the quack and swap stories.  They are known to drive local motorists quackers by holding up the traffic when they cwoss the road.

Stay on the bwidge and hopefully you’ll have a quack find!

A bit of local history…

…there was an early tidal mill here at the mouth of the river, just 50m to the south east from GZ. From the 12th century the Portmarnock corn mill and surrounding lands were owned by the Abbey of St Mary, Dublin. By 1650 there was only one mill, the tide water mill here just east of Portmarnock bridge. It is shown on Rocque's map (1760). In 1799 a Thomas Dickinson took a lease of the mill and a year later knocked it down, rebuilding it to three storeys. By 1867 the mill was unused as it had no water power. Damaged by a storm in 1903 and unroofed by 1912 it was taken down in the 1940s. The remains of the mill comprise the footing of walls, sluice gate, 19th century mill race and fragmentary remains of the walls revetting the mill pond and inlet.
