This is part of a Doctor Who themed series of geocaches.
One of the fascinating long-running aspects of the Doctor Who television series is how the Doctor interacts with real historical events and people. In the episode, Vincent and the Doctor, The Eleventh Doctor & companion Amy Pond encounter Vincent van Gogh in France in 1890. Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853-1890) was a famous Dutch painter who painted much of his work in France. Van Gogh suffered from intense mental illness resulting in his death. As an artist he was virtually unknown until after his death, with much of his best work toward the end of his short life.
During their visit, Vincent is accused of killing a villager due to his reputation as a drunkard and a madman. Since Vincent can see the aliens called Krafayis he helps the Doctor stop further attacks. The Doctor takes Vincent to an art museum in the future where he hears Dr. Black, the conservator, extoll the greatness of Vincent van Gogh. Numerous references tie together this fictional storyline in with the artist's paintings. There are numerous references of different incarnations of the Doctor having paintings from the artist in the TARDIS. Oh, and Americans get to learn how the Brits pronounce van Gogh.
As soon as I saw the opportunity to place this cache I KNEW what episode I was going to use for this location. I mean, come on. We have an art museum in the historical "Black" house from the 1850s (that was yellow at posting and now white). Yep. Even if you don't have time for a tour of the house or to see an art exhibit, you might want to take a quick stroll through the shaded garden area and/or the museum grounds to learn more.
To search for this geocache there is parking in the museum lot. With a quick walk down the east side of the garden you will find a small container within the vicinity of an incredible tree. Please take good care of the location -- the cache decor should be evident.
Congratulations to TeamCocoaJP & CWBisnumber1 on your FTF!!
