The COVID-19 pandemic persists as history-in-the-making for the unknown future. For the United States, Washington State stood out in several instances and was put on the map. This series of geocaches display spotlights.
Washington State had the first autonomous zone in the U.S. on June 8, 2020 taken over by protesters of George Floyd’s killing while in police custody. The Seattle occupation protest was first named Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ), then called CHOP for Capitol Hill Occupied or Organized Protest. The zone occupied six city blocks and a park after the Seattle Police Department left its East Precinct building. Police cleared the zone of occupants on July 1, 2020. Simultaneous to COVID-19 was that hospitalizations, deaths, and economic toll exposed glaring racial disparities disproportionately impacting Black and other minority communities in the country.
The cache is a tiny lurvig in a public place. Access only during daylight.
