Passerella sul Cordevole
[IT] Il Cordevole (Cordeol, Cordol o Curdëivul in ladino) è un torrente del Veneto, principale affluente del Piave e il più lungo corso d'acqua fra quelli interamente compresi nella provincia di Belluno. Assieme al Piave è il più importante corso d'acqua delle Dolomiti, in quanto segna il confine tra le Dolomiti Occidentali (a ovest del Cordevole) e le Dolomiti Orientali (a est del Cordevole).
Nasce presso il Passo Pordoi, in comune di Livinallongo del Col di Lana e confluisce nel fiume Piave presso Bribano, a 275 metri di quota.
Il torrente estende il suo bacino idrografico quasi totalmente nell'Agordino. A Caprile (in comune di Alleghe) riceve l'apporto del torrente Fiorentina (che raccoglie le acque dell'altopiano di Mondeval e del monte Pelmo) e del Pettorina (il quale nasce a ridosso del versante meridionale della Marmolada), poi ad Alleghe forma l'omonimo lago (originatosi nel 1771 da una frana del monte Piz e ora sbarrato da una diga artificiale; sono in corso opere tese a svuotarlo dai sedimenti che ne minacciavano altrimenti la sopravvivenza). Prosegue quindi il suo corso verso Cencenighe Agordino, dove riceve il Biois (che raccoglie le acque del settore settentrionale delle Pale di San Martino e della parte meridionale del gruppo della Marmolada) e forma il lago del Ghirlo.
Poco oltre, a Listolade, riceve le acque della Val Corpassa (gruppo del Civetta e della Moiazza). All'altezza di Taibon Agordino confluisce il Tegnas (formato dalle acque provenienti dal gruppo delle Pale di San Martino), passa Agordo ricevendo le acque del Missiaga, del Bordina e della Rova (provenienti dalla Moiazza e dal gruppo Tamer-San Sebastiano) e prosegue lungo una valle non molto ampia (dove talvolta rimane in secca a causa dei prelievi operati a scopi idroelettrici) fino a Peron (comune di Sedico).
A pochi chilometri dalla foce, a quota 320 m s.l.m., riceve dalla destra le acque del Mis, che sono più abbondanti di quelle del Cordevole stesso in quanto all'altezza di Gron di Sospirolo vengono restituiti i prelievi effettuati a monte dal lago di Santa Giuliana (meglio conosciuto come Lago del Mis), nel quale si riversano le condutture che partono dall'Agordino.
Anticamente il Cordevole era chiamato Cordubium. La tradizione racconta che tale nome è legato ad una frase detta da Giulio Cesare, il quale - incerto se attraversare o meno il corso d'acqua - avrebbe esclamato: "Cor dubium habeo!". Secondo il Pellegrini il proconsole romano avrebbe pronunciato la "storica frase" mentre andava da Feltre a Belluno, e avendo trovato il torrente gonfio per le piogge, era indeciso se tentarne il guado.
La cache è pensata per condurvi sulla passerella sopra il Cordevole, per ammirare il panorama circostante e, perché no, farvi un giro in bici sulla ciclabile Agordina, che parte da Cencenighe Agordino e arriva dopo 23km a Malga Ciapela, pensata per valorizzare il torrente Cordevole e tutto il territorio.
[EN] The Cordevole (Cordeol, Cordol or Curdëivul in Ladino) is a torrent from Veneto, the main tributary of the Piave and the longest waterway among those entirely included in the province of Belluno. Together with the Piave it is the most important watercourse in the Dolomites, as it marks the border between the Western Dolomites (west of the Cordevole) and the Eastern Dolomites (east of the Cordevole).
It was born at the Pordoi Pass, in the municipality of Livinallongo del Col di Lana and flows into the Piave river near Bribano, at 275 meters above sea level.
The stream extends its water catchment area almost entirely in the Agordino area. In Caprile (in the municipality of Alleghe) it receives the contribution of the Fiorentina torrent (which collects the waters of the Mondeval plateau and of Mount Pelmo) and of the Pettorina (which originates close to the southern slope of the Marmolada), then in Alleghe form the homonymous lake (originating in 1771 from a landslide on Mount Piz and now barred by an artificial dam; works are underway to empty it from sediments that otherwise threatened its survival). It then continues its course towards Cencenighe Agordino, where it receives the Biois (which collects the waters of the northern sector of the Pale di San Martino and the southern part of the Marmolada group) and forms the lake of Ghirlo.
A little further on, in Listolade, it receives the waters of the Val Corpassa (Civetta and Moiazza group). At the height of Taibon Agordino flows the Tegnas (formed by the waters coming from the Pale di San Martino group), passes Agordo receiving the waters of the Missiaga, Bordina and Rova (coming from Moiazza and from the Tamer-San Sebastiano group) and continues along a not very wide valley (where it sometimes remains dry due to the withdrawals operated for hydroelectric purposes) up to Peron (municipality of Sedico).
A few kilometers from the mouth, at an altitude of 320 m above sea level, it receives from the right the waters of the Mis, which are more abundant than those of the Cordevole itself since at the height of Gron di Sospirolo the samples taken upstream from Lake Santa Giuliana are returned (better known as Lago del Mis), into which the pipelines that leave from the Agordino flow.
In ancient times the Cordevole was called Cordubium. Tradition says that this name is linked to a phrase said by Julius Caesar, who - uncertain whether to cross the water course or not - would have exclaimed: "Cor dubium habeo!". According to Pellegrini, the Roman proconsul would have pronounced the "historical phrase" while going from Feltre to Belluno, and having found the swollen torrent from the rains, it was undecided whether to try to ford it.
The cache is designed to take you on the walkway over the Cordevole, to admire the surrounding landscape and, why not, take a bike ride on the Agordina cycle path, which starts from Cencenighe Agordino and arrives after 23km at Malga Ciapela, designed to enhance the Cordevole stream and the whole territory.
