Geocache Description:

THIS MULTICACHE REQUIRES INTERNATIONAL TEAMWORK!

The difficulty rating is due to the effort required to find and communicate with an international geocacher prepared to help you by finding and sending you details of the international intermediate stage so that you will be in a position to locate the final stage of this Cape Town cache.

Cape Town to Pocatello Map

Table and Scout Mountains

At GZ there is a container that holds a set of coordinates. During working hours enter the door adjacent to the old snail mail post box. (You will need to take one of the slips with the Pocatello coordinates or photograph the slip with the coordinates shown in large letters).  These need to be sent to a geocacher based in Pocatello, Idaho, USA. You need to identify a Pocatello geocacher who is willing to assist you by locating the intermediate stage in Pocatello and send you details (preferably a photograph) that you need to find the final of this Cape Town cache.  There is a similar multi-cache in Pocatello (GC8X30F) that requires a Pocatello geocacher to make contact with a Cape Town counterpart so that s/he can find the Pocatello final for that cache. Offering to assist by finding the Cape Town intermediate virtual stage of  GC8X30F may secure the required international team cooperation.

Pocatello is situated in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is 240km north of Salt Lake City, Utah, and 300km east of the Idaho State capital Boise. It is 1350 m above sea level, and is nestled in the western foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Only 300 mm of precipitation falls in a year. Summer temperatures reach highs of 30C and winter lows average -8C.

Pocatello

Pocatello is known as the “Gateway to the Northwest.” As pioneers, gold miners and settlers traveled the Oregon Trail in the 1840s and 50s, they passed through the Portneuf Gap south of town. Stage and freight lines and the railroad soon followed. The town is named after an Indian chief of the Shoshone tribe who granted the railway a right-of-way through the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. Over the years, Pocatello has transitioned from a stop on the 1850's gold rush, to an agricultural community, to the present day regional centre for shopping, education, medical care, cultural and outdoor activities. The city has a population of close to sixty thousand people. It is home to Idaho State University.Throughout the USA Idaho is known for the quality and quantity of its potatoes but the state is not covered by potato fields. Most of the state is covered in mountains, and there are free-flowing rivers suitable for rafting, mountain bike tracks and numerous hiking trails. The snow covered mountains provide excellent skiing in winter.

With this diverse environment Pocatello is a centre for outdoor recreation. It’s surrounded by an endless supply of trails, world class climbing opportunities. Similar to Cape Town there are numerous climbing routes (both bolted and free-climb) and many boulder problems close by.  A short drive takes visitors to some of the best parks and forests in the USA.

With its attention to outdoor activities it's not surprising that Pocatello is an active geocaching location so there should be little difficulty in a Cape Town geocacher finding a willing Pocatello geocacher to assist in solving this Planet teamwork cache.

Information regarding Teamwork caches from Geocaching HQ.
Teamwork caches are created cooperatively by two owners from different areas. They encourage two geocachers to work together to find a cache in the different areas. Geocachers trade information that leads each to the final container in their own area.

Each teamwork cache must

Have the Teamwork cache attribute.
Be owned and maintained by a local geocacher.
Be placed in a region where there is a reasonable number of local geocachers, so there will be plenty of partners for everyone.
Have at least one additional stage with information needed to find the partner cache.
Have all of its stages (including posted and final coordinates) in the same area.
You should not sign the name of your teamwork partner in the log of your local cache. You can only claim a find if you visit the cache yourself.
