Cache container is a unique micro located alongside the Northampton/ Mass Central Rail Trail in the center of the village, at the site of the original passenger train depot (Florence Paint Store now sits aproximately on the site of the old depot according to historical maps)
Florence: "Two decades before the New Haven & Northampton Railroad reached Florence in1867, the town served as a stop on the Underground Railroad, helping slaves escape from the South. A few blocks west on Meadow Street is the old Ross Homestead, which is part of the National Park Service's Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. In the 1840s, Florence was also home to the Northampton Association of Educaiton and Industry (NAEI), an abolitionist cooperative committed to creating a society in which "the rights of all are equal without distinction of sex, color or condition..." Prominent members included Sojourner Truth and David Ruggles. A mill building still stands on Nonotuck Street, where the NEAI operated its cooperative silk mill. Just south of here is the vibrant Florence Center."
Caution: Very high muggle area during daytime. Popular rail trail.
