The 20 bunk Kohanga Atawhai-Manson Nicholls Hut, on the shores of Lake Daniell, opened in March 2020.
This replaced the 1976 vintage Manson Nicholls Memorial Hut - previously on the same site, which had been built to commemorate three trampers who died when a landslide devastated the older Lake Daniell Fishing Club Hut.
This had been sited along the western shoreline opposite the current hut site.
The location has stunning scenery, accessed by a well developed 3 hr (one way) walking trail, suitable for family groups, as is at low elevation, without any significant hills. The lake provides for swimming and fishing.

As this hut and adjacent camping area can be busy at all times of the year, the cache is placed on a quieter trail along the shoreline a little beyond the hut.
