The Shanlinxi Forest Recreation Area (杉林溪森林生態渡假園區大飯店) is a scenic forest/vacation resort in Zhushan Township, Nantou County. The forest is located at an elevation of 1,600-1,800 meters above sea level with an area of 40 hectares, and consists of fir forests, flower and herb gardens, and several spectacular waterfalls. Monkeys, flying squirrels, and many other kinds of wildlife are frequently spotted in this area. It’s a mecca for bird-watchers, in particular. There is an entrance fee to get into the park, unless you are a resident of Nantou County or are above age 65. This cache is located on the Rhododendron Forest Trail (台灣杜鵑森林步道) and is accessible from either the Yenan Trail (燕庵步道), just below the Longlin Waterfall (龍鱗瀑布), or from the “Red House” (紅樓) near the center of the Sun Link Sea resort area.
