Had to google him myself !
( Even though I had been there one night when the Historical Society acted out a performance there ,,,,and told us all about the important folk buried there . And the part they placed in Avondale's history.)
First of all.... this cemetery was originally part of Dr. Thomas Aicken's farm . When his 3 year old son William died in 1862 he donated some of his land for a cemetery ...and his child was the first burial here..
In previous times the cemetery was known as Avondale Cemetery , Orchard St. Cemetery and Rosebank Rd Cemetery....
The cemetery is now administered by St Judes Church Vestry/Cemetery Board.
Unfortunately, in some cases, early burial records have been sketchy , lost or non existent.
However, in 1980 the NZ Society of Genealogists carried out a survey including headstone transcripts .These have been lodged with St Judes , Auck Public Library and NZ Society of Genealogists.
Oh ...I nearly forgot....George Maxwell was a church parishioner and faithfull Caretaker of these grounds till the late 1980s .
