Was so excited when I heard this week that this gorgeous wee track off the Scenic Drive in the Waitakere Ranges had been upgraded and re opened !
I used to have 3 geocaches in here which I had to remove when it was closed for Kauri Dieback.
Back in business now.,,.and I spent a lovely hour or two wandering around here today .
Lots of boardwalks now ...but you can still get close to the large Kauri tree ...and no need for wet feet as you don't need to cross little streams .
There is a lovely big car park on the Scenic Drive entrance .
Near the beginning of the track you will see a fenced off grave and a plaque...This was the first cemetery in the area and was established in the1860s .The people buried here were members of the Bethells, Colebrook and Russell families.
Wesley Spragg purchased the land for a holiday home in 1901. 4 acres of the cemetery were closed off in 1905 and became part of the Bush Reserve . In 1924 he gave the Spraggs Bush Reserve to the City of Auckland.
Please use the shoe cleaning stations placed here ....and don't wander off track.
Enjoy! Saw a few dog walkers and families here today...A nice length of walk for younger children.
This cache is my first ever Ammo Can cache ! Plastic so won't rust...Toys here ...and space for Trackables.
Where the new steps meet the old....Second to lowest "new ' step....
