MILITARY SERIES – After spending 20 years in the military and retiring in 2000 as a First Sergeant from the Wisconsin Army Reserve National Guard, I decided to create this series and dedicate it to all of the men and women that served before me, with me, after me, serve today and those who will serve in future generations.
Each of the caches in this series is named after a unit, position, rank or other significant event during my military career.
While some of these may be an easy find, others may require some creative and critical thinking. Look at the rating for each cache as they will vary within the series.
Frankfurt Military Community (FRKMILCOM) – Frankfurt Germany: About halfway through my three-year tour, I found myself in Frankfurt, Germany at Rhein-Main Air Base, about to receive my duty assignment that would change the rest of my life. Having just completed the MPI course, I had the ‘V5’ identifier on the back of my MOS. I was not just an MP, but I was now qualified to be an Investigator.
I was assigned to the Frankfurt Military Community (FRKMILCOM) and my initial duty assignment was as a desk clerk at the MP Station. FRKMILCOM was a unit of mainly support personnel with the MP’s that ran the MP Station, MP Investigators, cooks, mechanics, and other support personnel. The assignment as a desk clerk was kind of a feeling out process that all new personnel in the rank of E-1 – E-4 started out at.
After about 6 months as a desk clerk, I was moved to the MPI section. I spent a year working investigations and during that time I wore a military uniform one time and that was for a protective services detail protecting a General. There will be more caches with some of my more memorable details like this one down the road.
That event that changed my life was not the MPI assignment although that was huge! It was being stationed in Frankfurt Germany where I ultimately met my wife to be. We were married about three years after we met and are still together now, over 34 years (and counting) later. But that is another cache down the road!
Congratulations to kalkranz on the FTF on this Cache Ba$hless weekend!
