A church at this site is thought to date back to Saxon times and has served as Ipswich's town church for centuries. The current church was, however, rebuilt in Victorian times. Although largely tucked away between the bigger buildings that now dwarf it, with its spire and black and white chessboard patterning, it is a very distinctive building.
