Geocache Description:

The 16th of a series of caches planned to be hidden at or near the historic rural schoolhouses of Routt County (RCSH - Routt County School Houses).  See the first cache of this series (GC6QQ71) for a complete and updated list of the ones currently available - but this list will continue to grow as there were 96 schools which served Routt County neighborhoods from 1883 until 1960 when the rural districts consolidated.

The Clark School District #19 was established in 1891 with the first school being held on the Rufus Clark Ranch.   By 1904, it was too small for the population and the Clark community built this log school on what many now refer to as Whitmer Hill.   School was held here from 1904 - 1915 at which time this larger building was built "over yonder" (on CR 62).  During the 1959-60 school year, the Clark school was absorbed into the Steamboat Springs school district with the upper three grades being bussed to Steamboat and the lower five grades being kept in Clark.  By 1960-61, all of the pupils were being bussed to Steamboat.   By the late 1980's a need arose in the Clark area for a school again and out of this need arose the current "North Routt Charter School".

The frame square school is now a private residence on the other side of these bushes (52500 RCR 62).   Until 1997, the school remained completely unchanged until the owner recovered it with brown frame siding.
