This geocache is the first of a series of several caches designed to give a brief but informative history on the old time Soda Bottlers and Brewers in Jefferson City.
The name F.E. Jones, although now mostly forgotten, is the name of a very interesting and obscure character in Jefferson City’s past.
Long ago the area that is now referred to as the “Mill Bottom” (The area of West Main Street between the Capitol and Richmond hill) was once a bustling area. Along that street in the 500 block rose a somewhat large building. This was the F. E. Jones Soda Company. Jones operated his company and bottled various types of soda around 1900-1910. Apparently he was successful with his enterprise and made a good deal of money. It is unknown exactly when he closed his doors.
Today you can still find old bottles and trays that read “F. E. Jones Jefferson City Missouri” embossed on the side.
