Kada se umire i probistre vode Prukljanskog jezera, na njegovu se dnu mogu vidjeti ostaci Gavanovih dvora koji su propali u vodu. A propali su zato što je ohola i zla Gavanuša, žena gospodara grada i okolna kraja, prezirala siromahe i nogom im dobacivala koru suhoga kruha. Zbog toga je došla Božja kazna. Jedne noći zatresla se zemlja ispod Gavanovih dvora koji propadoše pod golemim valom što je došao od mora. Ugušio se Gavan, Gavanuša i sav narod u gradu. Ostalo je samo Gavanovo dijete u naručju dadilje, mlade Liburnijke. More je gutalo kuće, drveće i ljude, a Liburnijka je bježala s djetetom. More joj je doticalo pete sve do četvrtoga kilometra od potopljena grada kod mjesta Guduća. Tu je Liburnijka iznemogla i dijete joj je ispalo iz naručja. Na tome je mjestu nastalo jezerce bez dna, veličine i oblika gumna u koje je dijete upalo u nepovrat. Potop je s brijega promatrao Gavanov pastir koji je čuvao ovce. Sišao je u dolinu i rekao mladoj Liburnijki: "Otišao je naš tiranin, a dijete će se vratiti kada svijet postane dobar. Ostali smo sami, kamo ćemo? Pođimo zajedno i sagradimo novi grad u kome neće vladati Gavani." Uzeli su se i podigli novi grad na ušću Krke - Skradin.

When the waters of Lake Prukljan die and clear, the remains of Gavan's palaces, which fell into the water, can be seen at its bottom. And they perished because the arrogant and evil Gavanuša, the wife of the lord of the city and the surrounding area, despised the poor and kicked them with a crust of dry bread. That is why God's punishment came. One night the earth shook beneath Gavan's palaces which collapsed under a huge wave coming from the sea. Gavan, Gavanuša and all the people in the city suffocated. Only Gavan's child remained in the arms of a nanny, a young Liburnian girl. The sea swallowed houses, trees and people, and the Liburnian girl fled with the child. The sea touched her heels all the way to the fourth kilometer from the submerged town near Guduća. There the Liburnian girl became exhausted and the child fell out of her arms. At that place, a bottomless pond was created, the size and shape of a threshing floor into which the child fell into irretrievability. The flood was watched from the hill by Gavan's shepherd guarding the sheep. He went down into the valley and said to the young Liburnian, "Our tyrant is gone, and the child will return when the world is good. We are left alone, where shall we go? Let us go together and build a new city in which Gavans will not rule." They married and built a new town at the mouth of the Krka - Skradin.
