Speyer hat eine über 2000 Jahre alte Geschichte aufzuweisen. Sie beginnt im Jahr 10 v. Chr. mit der Errichtung eines Römerlagers. Der Name Spira, aus dem sich schließlich der heutige Name Speyer entwickelte, taucht erstmals 614 auf. Vor allem durch den Kaiserdom erlangte Speyer Bekanntheit.
