Hats off to rivkegribenes who has been entertaining me this summer with the little pictures caches and who generously agreed that it would be ok to mention that I was inspired by those caches to create this similar one.
During the covid-19 pandemic I've found that this location is one of my favorite places to walk because all of the residents are socially distancing. I like looking at the markers to see the names, date, shapes, sizes, materials and fonts and wonder about their lives. There's lots of natural beauty to admire, including hills, trees, flowers, birds and lichens. On clear days it's worth going north of Burnside to the highest point to see which mountains are out.
The best parking is near the posted coordinates. Please pay attention to the hours of operation (dawn to dusk), who is invited to visit (kids are fine, dogs are not permitted), and be respectful if a new resident is arriving. There's an interesting sign nearby that explains some of the history of the location which is private property but one that expects visitors. Because the property does not permit physical caches, the cache is a short walk from there.
To determine the cache coordinates, collect information at or near seven of the eight benches in the pictures below. All benches are south of Burnside. Seven photos were taken from the roads, and you shouldn't have to go too far off the road to find the information you need. The photo of the last bench was taken from the grass and is quite a distance from the road. For all benches, the information you seek is either on the bench or on markers within 10 feet of the bench. Expect to take an hour or more and to walk over 2 miles to find the cache and return to your vehicle.
You can visit the benches in any order. The most efficient way to do the cache is to find the benches in numerical order. The first bench will be east and up from the parking. To assist you in your search, the photos are presented in order, from east to west. If you find the benches in the order presented, each bench is within 1000 feet of the previous bench; a couple of the benches are very close together. Some, but not all, benches are visible from the previous bench. To get to the cache you can either use the unofficial exit a bit east of bench #8 which will require walking along a road without sidewalks or exit via the nearby car exit then cross the street near the yellow sign that's across the street which is next to a path that leads to a sidewalk.
The cache is located at ABCDEFGHI. Some answers are 1 digit, others are 2 digits. The checksum of all the digits is 64. All ages are in years. If only the year is provided, assume the age is the difference between the years; if the full date is provided calculate based on the full date but use only the integer part of the year and ignore the fraction. For items that ask the age of person A when person B was born, calculate from person A's birth even if they were no longer living when person B was born. Note that the order of the benches (photos) differs from the order of the questions and that one of the benches does not yield any answers..
