Geocache Description:

A forge is a working site for a blacksmith, usually housing a place for a fire to heat and rework metals as well as housing the tools needed to bend and shape steel. The Pinkston Forge in Brigus was established in the late 1800s and moved to its current location in 2014. Douglas Pinkston was the last Pinkston family blacksmith.

The adjacent Brigus Stone Barn, is a three storey, rectangular stone building with a gambrel roof originally built as a house. Built in 1825 for local businessman Charles Cozen, the Brigus Stone Barn is the only remaining stone building in Brigus.

Cozens was the owner of one of the largest fishing operations in Newfoundland and Labrador, with stations extending from Placentia Bay to Northern Labrador. Cozens was also a politician and was elected to Newfoundland’s first House of Assembly in 1832 as a representative for the Brigus area.
