Jubilee Bridge was built to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. It was built by R & R Fleming of Glasgow and is a pedestrian suspension bridge supported by wire cables and iron ties. It has cast iron-columned tall pylons with finials. It is a category B listed building. Despite all this technical stuff - it still wobbles and is known to many as 'the wobbly bridge'!
It is quite a landmark on the River Annan and can be crossed to make a good circular walk from Annan or from Brydekirk as there are good paths on either side. I've also including parking spots which are a bit nearer too.
The adjacent pumphouse building, which is no longer in use, used to be where water was taken from the river and pumped to Chapelcross. It was used in the cooling process on the heat exchangers for producing electricity at the power station. The used water was then pumped from Chapelcross along the pipeline to Seafield and into the Solway Firth.
There was a cache here previously, but I feel that the spot is worthy of another. Good luck!
