Geocache Description:

This cache was placed with permission from the City of Underwood & the Underwood Study Club.

The Foss Log Cabin is named after Ole and Anne Foss, one of three families who homesteaded this area in 1869, which would later become the city of Underwood. The cabin is unique because it remained inhabited for 100 years after its construction (including a brief stint as a chicken coop) and was never torn down or moved. The only residents it has had since spring of 1977 are chipmunks!

In 1977, the cabin was purchased by the Underwood Study Club, with a promise to restore, and to not move it nor sell it. The restoration was completed in 1981 and dedicated during the Underwood Centennial that year. Today the cabin is toured occasionally by appointment for school groups and such. An open house is held each year during the Underwood Harvest Festival.

As you search for this geocache, please be respectful of its historical significance. The cache is placed outside the building. You will find it very close to the building. But it is not physically placed on the cabin, so there is no need to dig into any parts of the building.
