Please note the cache is not at the posted coordinates. The coordinates represent a parking location outside the Atlin "Pioneer" Cemetary where you will collect information in order to calculate the cache coordinates, the final coordinates will require you walk less than 0.125 mile to the cache container. Please be respectful while walking through the cemetary, there are obvious trails to follow while you locate the various markers which will give you the information needed to solve the puzzle. I suggest writing down the information and then doing the calculations - Atlin has no cell service so if you wish to use the coordinator checker you would have to drive back to town to one of the free wifi locations, but if you double check all the numbers you shouldn't need to do that. As you stroll along looking for these specific markers take time to read markers and headstones of those who led interesting and sometimes perilous lives in the Atlin area, little glimpses of history.
From the information sign outside the fenced area make note of the year the boom subsided. Add these 4 digits and subtract 15, this = A
Locate the marker for Evan "Taffy" Williams and make note of 4 digit year in which he died. Add these 4 digits and subtract 14 this = B
Locate the marker for James Henry Eastman II and make note of how old he was when he died (the marker can be hard to read, however the last digit in the year he died is 6 NOT 5). Calculate his age at death, (attention to detail is needed when determining his age!) subtract 1 and the last digit of this new number = C
Locate the marker for Baby Okata and make note of the month in which she died. Subtract 6 from the numerical equivelent for the month (ie. January =1, February =2 etc.) this is D
Locate the marker for Thomas Frederic Harper Reed and make note of the year he died. Add the first 2 digits and subtract 10, this is E
Find the marker for Paul Louis Eggert and note the year he was born. The first digit in the year is F
Lcoate the marker for Eliza Winnifred beloved wife of J.B. Kershaw and make note of the month she died. Use the numerical equivalent of the month, this equals G
Once you have all the information you need, take the time to rest on a nearby bench and do the math in order to solve for the final coordinates. The cache is outside the fenced area and you can follow a trail that runs parallel to the road in order to get to the geo-zone (no need to go bush bashing except for the last few feet). If your solved coordinates indicate the cache location is further than 0.125 of a mile from the parking coordinates, then you should re-check!
The coordinates for the cache are:
N 59 AB.CDD W 133 BE.FGB
If you want to see how histroy still lives in Atlin, go to Pearl Avenue and First Street and see the Town Clock erected by Jules Eggert in 1921 and the building that housed the Kershaw Hardware Store which is now a private residence.
