Geocache Description:

Genesee Park is a 57.7-acre park in the Rainier Valley neighborhood of Seattle Washington. Before 1917, this park was part of Lake Washington. The road, Lake Washington Boulevard, was a bridge that went over the lake. In 1917, Lake Washington was lowered by nine feet as part of the construction of the Lake Washington Ship canal forming Genesee Park. In 1947, it was purchased by the city and used as a dump until 1963. The park’s development finally started in 1968.

This park features a nature trail and a wild habitat. It also has a large picnic shelter and open grass area on its northern segment, a sand upper-field for soccer plus an artificial turf lower-field for sports and a fenced-in dog park through its central segment. It also has a circular walkabout in its southwest segment and three child play areas.

During the first week of August, Genesee Park serves as the main entrance to the hydroplane races and aerobatics air show festivities which are part of Seattle’s summer celebration known as Seafair dating all the way back to the 1950s. Sadly, Seafair had to be canceled in 2020 due to Covid-19. It would have been its 71st year of celebration.

Please enjoy this lovely park. Have fun and watch out for muggles.

Congrats to 2nd1of3 on the FTF!
