Geocache Description:

Wildhorse Fire Lookout Tower was developed in 1935 with a 40' pole tower topped by a gable-roof L-4 cab. Then in 1947 a 40' treated timber L-4 tower was built. It was last staffed by the Coos FPA in 1998. The cab collapsed under heavy snow during the winter of 2007. The Sand Mountain Society (a group of volunteers who restore fire lookouts) began work on the tower the following summer, removing the crumbled cab, but nothing else has been done since then. Presently, only the superstructure is standing and it is looking pretty rickety.

To get to the lookout take Jerry's Flat Rd to FS Rd 3318 and drive for 9 miles. This is a good graveled road that any vehicle should be able to handle. There is a locked gate just off the road. Park and walk to the cache about .20 mile and then go on up to the top. Cache is just off the road below the lookout. Elevation 3750'.

Cache is a regular waterproof container with swag and log book. Please replace with care.
