Geocache Description:

WARNING: If you do not have 4 wheel drive and a high clearance, park out on Blue Sky road and walk in.  Welcome to Historic Arapaho Springs and Spring House! This should be a relativley easy find even with a crazy GPS bounce up here.  Depending on the time of year people will be camping  here, and I've hidden the cache far enough where you should be able to search in peace.  Please re hide it well.  On the way out, make sure to fill up your water bottles with some of the best water I've ever tasted!  Happy Hunting!

Pro Tip: Best to download coordinates offline as cell coverage is very spotty up here.

The Arapaho Springs springhouse and picnic ground was built in 1936 by Company 829 of the Civilian Conservation Corps on the original road from Bergen Park to Echo Lake.  Spring water flowing from plumbing in the center of the springhouse into basins below provided water for picknickers and for the radiators of old cars making the long climb to Echo Lake.  Later, the road was moved to it's present location down the slope, and Arapho Springs fell into disuse.  Two tenths of a mile east of Arapaho Springs, the CCC also built a roofless six-sided stone viewpoint on the point of the ridge with expansive views to the north and west.  The viewpoint, howver, lies on private land.  The viewfinder once there was later relocated to the Squaw Mountain lookout.  During the 10 years of the CCC, from 1933 to 1942, Company 829 worked primarily the Clear Creek Ranger District.  Among other things, they worked on construction trails, recreation facilites, roads, and the Squaw Mountain Fire Lookout. Restoration work was done in 2015 by the Forest Service and Historicorps.  The Springhouse has weathered many years of use.  Please respect it and it's history, Happy Hunting!
