Geocache Description:

This is a family friendly cache that will hopefully be expanded at some point. Cache has been filled with swag and a few fun retro treats for FTF.

This small building was the original Eureka Post Office and dates to the late 1840s. One of the three individuals who established and platted Eureka was named Lester Rounds. He was also the first postmaster of Eureka. His house still stands on this property. Over the years the post office would be moved, typically to the primary business that the appointed postmaster ran, such as a grocery or even saloon. Eventually, in the late 1950s, the post office returned to the building you see in front of you for several years, before moving to its final location down the road at the site of Eureka Landings. The post office in Eureka was discontinued around 2007, and mail service is now provided by the Omro post office

Other uses of this building during the times it did not house a post office were a hardware store and ice cream parlor.

Happy caching!

Permission is granted by myself for the hide. It is on my property.
