Okuklje (Camera ili Occùchie) nastaje za vrijeme vladavine  Dubrovačke Republike kada se na moru uspostavlja relativna sigurnost od gusarskih napada i kada dio stanovnika iz Vrhmljeća silazi na more. U dokumentima iz 1414. godine spominju se Luka i Stjepan, braća iz Okuklja.

U vrijeme mira od gusarskih napada, Okuklje se razvija u luku iz koje su trgovci svakodnevno isplovljavali u Dubrovnik, prodavajući svoje vino, ribu i drva.

Okuklje su Maranska luka do koje se dolazi cestom koja je u skladu sa imenom, puna okuka-krivina. Danas je mjesto česta meta nautičara, a u prošlosti je bio meta gusara i  hajduka koji su nekoliko puta palili mjesto i natjerali stanovnike ponovno u bijeg u unutrašnjost otoka. U Okuljama se nalazi i crkva sv. Nikole iz 16. St.

Okuklje (Camera or Occùchie) was formed during the rule of the Republic of Dubrovnik when relative security from pirate attacks was established at sea and when part of the population from Vrhmlje went down to the sea. Documents from 1414 mention Luka and Stjepan, brothers from Okuklje.

In a time of peace from pirate attacks, Okuklje developed into a port from which merchants sailed daily to Dubrovnik, selling their wine, fish and wood.

Okuklje is the port of Maran, which can be reached by a road that is in line with the name, full of okuka-curves. Today, the place is a frequent target of boaters, and in the past it was the target of pirates and hajduks who set the place on fire several times and forced the inhabitants to flee back to the interior of the island. In Okulje there is also the church of St. Nicholas of the 16th St.
