Dead Centre Latrobe
At the end of 1872 there was a public cemetery reserve declared in Latrobe, and when it was brought into use, it wa5 divided into three sections viz: a Church of England, a Roman Catholic and a general section. Before this burial ground was opened the old Frogmore cemetery and other places were used. The Frogmore property and homestead can be seen at the Railton Rd. junction just west of the town. Some of the old Latrobe pioneers were interred at Torquay (East Devonport). In 1968 Devonport, Latrobe and Kentish councils entered into a three way 40 year agreement for a central lawn cemetery at Quoiba to b3 jointly established and operated for the three municipalities. The Latrobe Cemetery is largely inactive (no pun intended) today.
