~ Red Creek Paddle Series ~
This two-stage multi is part of a series of six paddle caches along the very peaceful Red Creek. The first three caches will be easy to get to, as well as the first waypoint of the multi (Up the Creek). To continue on however, you will need to navigate beyond two downed trees blocking access; requiring you to lay down in your vessel to glide underneath. Water levels will obviously affect ease (or difficulty) of accessibility but at several points between June and August 2020, the levels remained pretty consistent and was able to be cleared each time.
[Side note: this multi COULD BE accessible in winter after long enough of a freezing spell for the creek to have frozen over if you are willing to walk on it - at your own risk, and using proper judgement! I would NOT recommend doing this for the rest of the series though.]
All cache containers (and info needed) should be within reach, never requiring you to exit your watercraft.
Accurate coordinates were sometimes hard to capture. I averaged them from three different trips out and fine-tuned them to the satellite image whenever there were identifiable objects nearby for reference, so that may help in some cases.
You can park your vehicle and launch from the Genesee Waterways Center located off Elmwood Avenue near Genesee Valley Park. If you don’t have your own watercraft, GWC has kayaks and canoes available to rent during their open hours and season, which begins Memorial Day weekend and runs until sometime in September (if you'll be counting on this, it may be a smart idea to give them a call ahead of time to verify availability – 585.328.3960). Their rates can be found here: https://geneseewaterways.org/kayaking.
There will be instructions (and another brief hunt) to a handmade First-to-Find prize at the final to incentivize at least one person to conquer the obstacles.
This is my favorite hide of both paddle series, so I hope you at least try for it!
Happy paddling!
