This cache is part of a permanent geo-trail created by Boone County Conservation District that contains 8 other stops throughout 7 total conservation areas.
Each of the caches on this trail contain a letter, which, when put together with the other letters and unscrambled create a code-word. Those that are able to identify the code-word are encouraged to visit the BCCD nature center and receive a reward for completing the trail.
This cache is placed at Kinnikinnick Creek conservation area, this is one of two sites managed by BCCD that contain an Illinois Nature Preserve. One of the prominent natural features of this conservation area is the spring fed Kinnikinnick Creek which winds its way through a limestone bluffed glen. This area of the site supports a large variety of native plants and unique fishes which helped to obtain protected status as a forest preserve.
Please park in the designated parking lot and be aware that this site, and others on the trail, are closed seasonally. This site as well as others are closed for hunting according to the schedule which found can be found here: https://www.bccdil.org/hunting-programs/ and from November through April for winter and should not be accessed when closed.
