This cache is part of a permanent geo-trail created by Boone County Conservation District that contains 8 other stops throughout 7 total conservation areas.
Each of the caches on this trail contain a letter, which, when put together with the other letters and unscrambled create a code-word. Those that are able to identify the code-word are encouraged to visit the BCCD nature center and receive a reward for completing the trail.
This cache is placed at LIB conservation area, a site which lies on the banks of the Kishwaukee River and hosts flora and fauna typical of a northern Illinois river bottom. Silver maple, sycamore, and willow trees dominate lowlands adjacent to the river. These species are adapted to withstand seasonal flooding. Low areas are dotted with wetlands which provide ideal habitat for aquatic species, including turtles, frogs, and beaver. Species of birds, including waterfowl and wading birds frequent the marsh. Warblers utilize the area in the spring to rest and refuel before continuing their journey north.
Please park in the designated parking lot and be aware that this site, and others on the trail, are closed seasonally. This site as well as others are closed for hunting according to the schedule which found can be found here: https://www.bccdil.org/hunting-programs/ and should not be accessed when closed.
