ITA: La grotta ricade nel territorio di San Gregorio Matese (Ce) ed è una tra le principali grotte sul Matese dove poter praticare speleologia, tuttavia si consiglia di farlo con lo specialista. Le prime testimonianze dell’esplorazione di questa grotta risalgono al 1776, quando un arciprete, Gianfrancesco Trutta, iniziò ad esplorarla con la luce delle fiaccole. Nel 1962 invece, lo Speleo Club Roma, inizia a visitare la grotta, entrando dall’ingresso dello Sprafunno e dall’inghiottitoio esterno. Negli anni successivi la grotta è stata esplorata in modo più approfondito scoprendo una lunga diramazione di gallerie, grandi sale, pozzi superiori ai 30 metri e grandi laghi dall’acqua verde smeraldo fino ad arrivare al nuovo grande sifone prossimo alla sorgente del Rifreddo. La grotta oggi è molto esplorata da speleologi molisani e avellinesi, i quali fanno molta attività esplorativa e didattica per i neofiti speleologi.

ENG: The cave falls within the territory of San Gregorio Matese (Ce) and is one of the main caves on the Matese where you can practice speleology, however it is recommended to do it with the specialist. The first evidence of the exploration of this cave dates back to 1776, when an archpriest, Gianfrancesco Trutta, began to explore it with the light of torches. In 1962, however, the Speleo Club Roma began to visit the cave, entering from the entrance to the Sprafunno and from the external sinkhole. In the following years, the cave was explored in more depth, discovering a long branch of tunnels, large halls, wells over 30 meters and large lakes with emerald green water up to the new large siphon near the source of the Rifreddo. The cave today is much explored by Molise and Avellino speleologists, who do a lot of exploration and didactic activity for speleologists.
