“The world has held great Heroes,
As history-books have showed;
But never a name to go down to fame
Compared with that of Toad!”
Kenneth Grahame’s son Alistair was the inspiration for Mr Toad, who featured in the boy’s bedtime stories alongside Mole, Ratty and Badger. The stories grew until they were finally published in 1908 as “The Wind in the Willows”, and went on to become a classic of children’s literature.
When on the hunt for an imposing literary figure like Toad, where better to look than INSIDE A LIBRARY - a street library to be precise. Just don’t expect to find him hanging out in any book!
