Geocache Description:

Drayton Harbor Loop (DHL) cache series - Semiahmoo Spit Section - MV Plover Terminal

This cache is one of a series that we published around Drayton Harbor. The first section (15 caches) is placed on/near Semiahmoo Spit.  We recommend doing this series in order starting with #1.  Parking is available near the Alaska Packers Association Cannery Museum. Parking and trailhead waypoints are posted on the DHL1 and DHL15 cache pages.

Washrooms are available and are accessible from the parking lot. Caches #1 to 5 are hidden along a gravel trail on the west side of Semiahmoo parkway. (The trail on that side does peter out for a little bit, so that you’ll need to walk along the beach for a short section. Cache #6 is hidden at the tongue of the spit. From there take the gravel trail and then the paved path back on the east side.  After #10 continue on Semiahmoo Spit Trail. This is a 'paved' decommisioned road - watch out for tree roots that have lifted the pavement in places .

The trail ends with the "Over the Hill' cache, https://coord.info/GC5VPYD, by MulderClan!  at the top of a set of steps going up into a subdivision.  If you are biking, do not take the trail to the stairs but continue along the Semiahmoo Spit Trail.  We have posted a waypoint where you can bike up the hill on the DHL1 and DHL15 cache pages.  From there continue along a paved road to the trailhead along Drayton Harbor Road.  This is a gated subdivision, however, the public trail, goes around the gate.  That is where this section ends.  We hope to continue the DHL series in the near future (note: all 30 caches have now been published).   We did the series on our bikes, however, you can also walk and continue with the Millenium series back to the parking lot at Semiahmoo Park..

In the summer months (Memorial Day to Labor Day), if you bike (or walk) this series, you can make it a  true loop by taking the Historic M.V. Plover that ferries the waters between Blaine Harbor Marine and Semiahmoo Spit on Fri., Sat. & Sun.  For more information check https://blainebythesea.com/plover-passenger-ferry/
