A few years ago a friend of mine passed away following a bicycle accident, (doing what he loved to do). This was one of his favorite locations around the Lompoc Valley and we honored him by burying some of his ashes at the base of the tree with the Amazing 270 degree view. You can get to this overlook from several ways, the easier way is starting at the end of Constellation by Cabrillo High School, then past Lost Lake and then heading north on the old oil roads and then climbing up the 3 Amigos trail. I added waypoints for this route. The other way is heading west across the ridgline from the top of Harris Grade.
One of our traditions when we come up here is to place a small stone on the old tree and perhaps have a shot of tequila and celebrate our friend with a hearty "Proost" (our friend was Belgian). In the bag fastened to the tree is a bottle of Gran Centenario and dispolsable shot glasses (please take any trash with you)
