Princess Aurora Sleeping Beauty is the daughter of King Stefan and Queen Leah. On the day of her christening, Aurora was cursed to die by the evil fairy Maleficent. Due to the efforts of three good fairies, the curse was altered to draw Aurora into a deep sleep that could only be broken by true love's kiss.
Aurora is the third official member of the Disney Princess line-up and is significant for being the last to be developed during Walt Disney's lifetime. She is also the first Disney Princess to appear in a live-action film.
Sleeping Beauty was voiced by Mary Costa in the 1959 animated film.
THE CAVE
This huge cave is only 4 km from the Garden Castle entry point, but some 240 metres above it. The walk up to the cave is thus quite strenuous, but passes through a beautiful valley with many interesting rock features and some lovely pools. It is within walking distance from the Drakensberg Gardens Hotel and consequently it is often visited by day trippers. The cave can provide a convenient base from which to explore Walker's Pass, and it is relatively easy to get to Hidden Valley via one of the spurs to the south of the cave, although the lower route via the Giant's Cup Trail is far easier.
THE CACHE
The cache can be reached from just outside the cave just off the trail past the main entrace to the cave. The elevation at gz is around 2200m
We have attached a spoiler image, so be sure to download it before hand as cell signal is not the best up here. The cache is placed in the same spot as the one that existed here before but with a slight twist! Please handle with care and replace it as found, ideally with as many rocks to cover it as possible as baboon families frequent these parts and any sign of something out of the ordinary will pique their curiosity!
We have also stocked the cache for kids / adults so carry something interesting/useful to swap out. Its a great reward for those who make the journey.
