We used to stay at Longside house for a week at a time or just weekends. To stay extra in those days you had have special permission. I stayed here when a baby. My first Youth hostel was when 6 weeks old, again special permission. My dad was very keen in those days in the hostelling group and instigated several hostels such as Beverley Friary and Dalby Forest - formerly Lockton. He was on management and local councils so exceptionally involved. All voluntary. He also led groups of cyclists ..
Brian was a real character and quite eccentric. Always keen to promote cycling, countryside and against private car travel. As you can imagine this was a bit tricky as a child hearing this all the time, Even so, great respect even if he drove people crazy with repeating the same stuff.
