Parking is recommended at the Clachtoll Beach Car Park.
Access to Split Rock ican be gained by walking through the dunes/ along the beach to reach a path, gate and stile. Sometimes sheep/cows/hens/pigs may be free grazing on the area.
On the way to the geocache you will probably walk over a series of deep ridges. These are post medieval, man-made lazybeds. They were a method of cultivating patches of land, often used to grow potatoes.
A small fragment of vitrified walling has been identified here and 2 sherds of Iron Age pottery similar to finds at nearby Clachtoll Broch uncovered during a test pit excavation in 2017.
