Geocache Description:

Plenty of free roadside parking is available here. You're looking for a small magnetic cache.

The name Paxcroft is thought to originate from the personal name ‘Pæcci’s croft’. A derivation of the name, ‘Packlescrofte,’ is first recorded as a settlement with three dwellings in 1249 on the Assize Rolls for Wiltshire. (Historic England, 2020).

In the fields on the other side of the busy A361 there is an Historic England 'Scheduled Monument' - Shrunken Settlement of Paxcroft to east of Lower Paxcroft Farm.

Information regarding this can be found on the Historic England website: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1442589
