Hendy Woods, or “Barney Flats” in Boontling, is a gem of a redwood grove especially for families looking to get out with the kids. We take our kids here multiple times per year and they always love to pike in the woods. “Pike” is another Boontling word for a hike or a stroll. If you haven't guessed already “Boontling” is a vocabulary that is unique to Boonville. We only know a few words and mostly the naughty ones.
About this cache
I have been out several times looking at possible hide locations. When I found this particular location with its oddly shaped redwood tree I knew I had to bring folks out to “bask in the glory of mother nature” and of course laugh like you are 13 years old again.
The cache is hidden right off the trail and should be really easy to get at. It’s an easy hike/walk and mostly flat trail that I believe is wheelchair accessible. The trail is fairly high traffic on the weekends. Please use stealth and wait for a good moment to make the grab. There is a bench right on the trail not more than 20 feet from GZ. Use it to your advantage.
Hendy Woods is a State Park, as such be prepared to pay about $10 for day use parking. There are bathrooms, picnic tables, and water fountains in the parking area.
