This is a simple geocache we placed on a recent trip to the Bay of Plenty.
We stayed just down the road, and while here got a small number of geocache finds in between plenty of other activities.
While explaining to our hosts what geocaching was, they mentioned a tunnel just up the road that was used many years ago apparently for transporting timber down to the river with oxen. We checked it out the next day and deemed it suitable for a cache (not knowing how many other local geocaches highlight sites like this).
It's a short 5 minute walk to the cache.
Use the waypoint for the trailhead, and you should have no problems parking.
SAFETY WARNING: The start of the track is a steep drop of a couple of metres. The rest of the walk is flat. Take care dropping down and coming back up. It can be slippery. Also, you will see evidence of roof falls inside the tunnel. Enter at your own risk.
You should not need a torch in daylight hours, but of course bring one if you are worried about the footing, which is a bit up and down.
