This is a short series of Challenge caches. They are placed along a Chalk track from Beckhampton in a linear row of around 2 miles in length. You can park in a large lay-by just off the A361 (Devizes to Beckhampton and Avebury) at the parking waypoint. This parking is free and there is usually plenty of space. The track has a long incline from the parking and then a smaller bump running down to meet my “Chalk Downs” series.
This track is part of the old Roman road running from Bath to Silchester near Reading. It has good views along much of it’s length and apart from an occasional tractor, motorbike and doggle (doggy muggle) it is usually deserted (famous last words....). It is also quite exposed to wind and rain, and will be very muddy in places. Walking boots, and probably wellies in winter are recommended. There are no stiles, gates or cows but once you are away from the A361 then you are properly in the countryside. It is child and dog friendly apart from the first 300m from parking to the start of the track. Traffic moves extremely fast along the A361 so you may feel safer walking slowly along the grass verge.
In order to log these caches as “found” and claim a smiley, you need to fulfil the challenge criteria.
A number of these caches have tiny logs. You must take tweezers and a writing implement to ensure that you can record your visit. Please use initials on tiny logs and give these initials in your online log. Unsigned logs will be deleted - take a pen and tweezers.
I recommend that you use the ProjectGC challenge checkers to verify that you meet the challenge (the checker includes an “example log” section).
Some of these challenges are just that - relatively challenging and may provide something for cachers to work towards. Difficulty ratings relate to the difficulty of the challenge, terrain only to the physical cache location as per the current challenge cache guidelines.
