For Geocachers, there are usually only a few types of tree, like the ICT (Ivy Covered tree) or MTT (Multi Trunk Tree). But actually, Rectory Park (and a lot of other cache sites too) have an abundance of interesting tree species! On this walk you have to identify some tree species.
To help you out, the following species are at the various waypoints:
A: Carpinus
B: Sorbus
C: Betula
D: Aesculus
E: Pinus
F: Fagus
G: Ilex
H: Fraxinus
I: Quercus
J: Populus
K: Prunus
L: Castanea.
Combine the correct waypoint with the correct letter of each tree. For example, when waypoint 10 is a cherry tree, then K=10 (As the scientific family name for a cherry is Prunus) (Free bonus!)
Now lets head into the park and look at some nice and interesting trees!
The high difficulty rating is mostly for winter. Although caching often is easier in winter due to a lack of leaves on trees, for this cache it is (much) harder to identify trees in winter. However, buds, fallen leaves and the shape of the crown can often be helpful hints too!
It is recommended to bring wellies after periods of rain, some paths turn into a sea of mud.
The waypoints can be found in any order, however they do form a sort of round walk through the park.
The final cache can be found at:
North 52.3E. I x ((K x H x D) - (L + F))
West 001.48. F (B-G-A) (J-K)
Feel free to send a message when you're stuck! (both literally, I live close) as when you can't find a waypoint or tree!
