西山海岸一帯には山口から北九州にかけて存在する芦屋層群に属する化石を含んでいる砂岩層が広く露出しています。
Around the Nishiyama coast, a sandstone layer containing fossils belonging to the Ashiya Group, which exists from Yamaguchi to Kitakyushu, is widely exposed.
ここでは地質時代、新生代古第三紀漸新世（約3,000万年前）の頃、彦島周辺海域に棲息していた生物の化石（貝・カニ・エビ・サメ等）が発見されています。
Around GZ, The fossils of organisms (shellfish, crabs, shrimp, sharks, etc.) that lived in the waters around Hikoshima at the Cenozoic Paleogene Oligocene of the geological age, (about 30 million years ago), have been discovered.

There is the fossil bed in the specific stratum. Do you think that thickness of the stratum is around several percent of the thickness of the whole this cliff?

化石が堆積したこの岩石がつくられた地域は浅い海だったでしょうか？それとも深い海だったでしょうか？
また、あなたがなぜそのように考えるのか理由も述べてください。
Was the area where this fossil bed was made in the shallow sea? Or was it the deep sea?
