Play Apparatus #1 - The Slide

There are so many jungle gyms hidden in and around parks, schools and even backyards.  Some consist of metal and now the latest of recycled plastic. What seems so simple to us, yet so much fun to the kids, who have endless fun on them. But who invented the first swing? the first monkey bars or even the first slide? 

The first slide was invented by a Engineer called Charles Wicksteed and installed in the Wicksteed Park in 1922. It was nothing fancy like we have today.  His slide was made of just plank wood.  There was 2 (one of boys and one for girls). 

He then went onto manufacturing the metal slide which was curved at the bottom ending in a horizontal section of sufficient length to reduce the speed to such an extent that it would not cause any harm or danger.
