Tra i sette colli di Roma, il colle Aventino può essere considerato il colle della poesia. Suggestionati dalla sua bellezza, poeti come D’Annunzio e Carducci, ne hanno cantato lo splendore nei loro versi e lo stesso Mazzini ne restò affascinato. L'Aventino ha la forma di un trapezio, da un lato è spiovente e dall'altro, essendo a strapiombo sul Tevere, mostra una delle più belle vedute di Roma. Un tempo era il più selvaggio dei sette colli ed era abitato dai plebei, che durante lo scontro con i patrizi si ritirarono qui, rifiutandosi di obbedire ai consoli e di prestare il servizio militare. Successivamente, in epoca repubblicana si riempì di gradevoli edifici diventando sempre più popolato mentre in epoca imperiale, da luogo di abitazione di plebei, divenne residenza di patrizi e di imperatori.
La passeggiata ci porterà dal Circo Massimo fino all'interno del colle attraverso il Roseto Comunale di Roma, la Basilica di Santa Sabina con il Giardino degli Aranci, la Basilica dei Santi Bonifacio e Alessio, la piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta con Roma dal buco e infine la Chiesa di Santa Prisca.

Among the seven hills of Rome, the Aventine hill can be considered the hill of poetry. Impressed by its beauty, poets like D'Annunzio and Carducci sang its splendor in their verses and Mazzini himself was fascinated by it. The Aventine has the shape of a trapezoid, on one side it is sloping and on the other, being overhanging the Tiber, it shows one of the most beautiful views of Rome. It was once the wildest of the seven hills and was inhabited by the plebeians, who, during the clash with the patricians, withdrew here, refusing to obey the consuls and to do military service. Subsequently, in the Republican era it was filled with pleasant buildings becoming more and more populated while in the imperial era, from being a dwelling place of plebeians, it became the residence of patricians and emperors.
