Geocache Description:

I’m adding another one to the series!  Sorry they don’t go in order now – haha!

All of the caches in this mini-series are placed along the Chief Peguis Greenway.

Chief Peguis Greenway travels the North side of Chief Peguis Trail between the Red River and Lagimodiere Blvd.  It provides pedestrian and bicycle connections to existing and proposed greenways and trails.

Chief Peguis was one of this region’s most influential leaders and was consulted by explorers, fur traders and government officials.  He is credited with ensuring the success of the new permanent settlement of the early 1800’s, named the Selkirk Settlement after Hudson’s Bay Company director and settlement organizer, Lord Selkirk.

Henderson Highway used to be called East Kildonan Road.  In February 1928 it was re-named in honour of the late Samuel Robert Henderson.  Henderson was active in politics as the Reeve of the Rural Municipality of Kildonan and the Reeve of the Rural Municipality of East Kildonan.  He was also the president and founding member of the Manitoba Good Roads Association and worked towards improving the highways of the Province.
