One of our daughter's favorite new shows is "Craig of the Creek," a tale of high adventure and imaginative kids set in the Maryland suburbs. When we moved to Springfield, our daughter Carey was happy to find that we did not live far from a nice, wild area ourselves. As a family, we enjoy coming to the bridge nearby to feed the turtles (bell pepper scraps seem to be their favorite), watch for ducks and egrets, and walk the trails. We hope you enjoy your visit as well.
Cache is a small lock and lock, just off a trail spur. There are two ways off the paved trail to get to this cache, one to the south, the other by the bridge; recommend the second one if it has rained recently, unless you brought your creek shoes. Free parking available at the additional waypoint. Metro riders can walk up from Franconia-Springfield.
The cache is hidden in Springfield Forest Park, a/k/a Franconia Forest Park, which is open dawn to dusk and is on the list of caches that does not require prior approval for geocaches.
