Geocache Description:

Grit Hall Travel Bug Dormitory

A travel bug hotel is a container large enough to house trackables (aka: Travel Bugs), and this cache is bigger than most. Since it is on a college campus, this temporary residence is a dormitory called Grit Hall and is the home of the ΩΡ (Omega Rho) chapter of the  (Mu-Sigma) Travel Bug Honor Society. This Honor Society is open to all Travel Bugs that want to inspire outdoor adventure, exploration, and community among geocachers. Travel Bugs in this Honor Society should want to get outdoors, have fun, and abide by the Geocachers' Creed!

This travel bug dorm is designed with adjustable "room" sizes so you can choose if your bug needs a single room or a king-sized suite. They can have roommates, too, if the dorm is getting crowded.

Travel Bugs are items that owners can track their movements as other geocachers move them from place to place. Learn more about Travel Bugs.

General Travel Bug Logging Guidelines

If you take any action with a travel bug (pick up, drop off, discover, or visit a cache), you should log it accordingly:

  • If you take a Travel Bug, select it by name on the trackable Inventory listing found on the right side of the cache webpage, and log that you Retrieved it. This will move it from the cache inventory to your inventory (you will need the code on the Travel Bug tag for this action).  To perform this action, you will need the alphanumeric code inscribed on its tag or the travelbug itself.
  • If you drop off a travel bug a cache for someone else to find, you should log it Dropped Off, which will move it from Your Inventory to the Cache Inventory where you left it.
  • If you just saw it in the cache but didn't take it, you can log it as Discovered.
  • If you have a Trackable but are not dropping it off, you can log it as Visited.

Cache Logging Requirements for this cache

  • Use the cache log book to log your username and the date of your visit
  • Use the member log book to log a trackable in or out as appropriate if you take action with a trackable. When you log a trackable in, it gets the next available member number. This can be done for trackables that are just visiting as well. The member log has already been started for the founding members, including Grit himself as member number 1.
  • If you drop off a trackable or have one that visits and gets a member number, post a photo of the trackable on the shelf with their Omega Rho number showing using the number cubes. This will be their induction ceremony. Please make sure the code on the tag does not show in the photo. Hopefully, our gallery of photos will grow to a healthy list of members.

This cache was placed with the permission of Dr. Bobbi Damrow, Vice President of Workforce Development & Community Relations at the college in June 2022.
