Geocache Description:

NOT EVEN HIDDEN:  A black bison tube.  Given a difficulty rating of 2 only because I know how those tubes can avoid detedction.  This one though really should be easy.  LHS.  1.5m from ttrack.

Applicable to the Series - please read all of this before you start the Series.

This is one of a series of several caches along the 11k stretch of the 480k Tasmanian Trail between Railton and Sheffield. Cache names have been taken from something nearby to each cache.

This series was originally titled Railton to Sheffield Series [plus name], and numbered.  After deciding to add to the original 30 caches [to make the trek even more rewarding] I have removed the numbers.  Please ignore any container lid numbers that still exist.

Though parts of this trail can be traversed by car or motorbike [all of it by bicycle], this is a great, level walk.  Part of the trail is Railtrack Road which, as the name implies, was a train track in days gone by.

With a lovely bush setting, a beautiful stretch of rain forest, including a waterfall, and glimpses of Mount Roland, this is a fabulous hike of approximately 11k. Make sure you make the 100m detour to the waterfall [through a pedestrian gate].

Most caches are 200ml Sistema containers with some bison tubes thrown in for variety.   The challenge is to complete the entire series so the hides are not difficult, but you can never tell with those bison tubes.    Please bring your own pen though there is a pencil for emergencies. in the systemas.   It is a challenge to keep Tasmanian caches dry.  Please take care to replace the zip lock bag entirely within the cache [and not jammed between cache and the lid].  All directions [eg LHS (left hand side)] are given from the aspect of starting at Railton and facing Sheffield.

At no time will you need to bush bash.  If the cache is off the track it will be via, or in, a clearing.

I hope you enjoy this series in this lovely bush part of the central north.

Commencing at Railton there is parking at the beginning of the trail on on the RHS of Kimberly Road just down from the Lions park on the main street.

If commencing at Sheffield, the beginning of the trail is not marked [at time of placement].  Go to Johnson Street on the southern side of Main Street. Johnson Street splits with both ends leading to private properties.  Go to the right.  The Tasmanian Trail commences through the double gates on the LHS. Please leave gates as you find them. This first stretch is not private property but runs alongside an unfenced stretch of private property.

Some caches can be captured by car.

The trail is accessible by car from:

Dowbiggin Street [off Sheffield Rd]

Dobsons Road [off Sunnyside Rd via Sheffield Rd]

Goss Road [off Sheffield Rd]

Stoodley Road [off Sheffield Rd]

Sheffield Rd [two places]
