In a park in Osborne is a monument for the Geodetic & Geographic Center, both of which are located in the area..one north and one south.
The real Geodetic Marker was put in place in 1891. The geodetic center takes into account the curvature of the earth’s surface. The station serves as the basic reference point for all government mapping undertaken in the United States (except in Hawaii), Canada, and Mexico. Selected in 1901, it has also served as the geodetic center of North America since 1913.
It is located on a ranch which is not accessible to the public and on private land. It is also very difficult to get to due to terrain. Below the monument is a brass marker resembling the real thing.
